We have heard about Chief Executive Officers and Chief Financial Officers, but Chief Digital Officer? Hardly someone must have ever come across a job title like that. But Mike Bloomberg, the tech savvy Mayor of the Big Apple aka the New York City feels the need for hiring a Chief Digital Officer to manage the digital assets and the digital content of the city’s digital infrastructure.

The move is being seen as a very positive and is being appreciated by all. Meanwhile the New Yorkers are eagerly waiting to behold their new Chief Digital Officer.

What are the eligibility criteria and what is the job description for this new post? The municipality has issued a PDF file containing the job description as well as the eligibility criteria. The salient points from it are as follows:

First of all, the Chief Digital Officer is required to “develop forward-thinking policies on social media, digital communications, web 2.0 initiatives and other tools to better serve the public”

“Multimedia content from NYC Media and other outlets will be integrated into the City’s website, mobile devices, video-on-demand and in public spaces”

But the job description does not say anything about as to how the position of the Chief Digital Officer gel or function with the other agencies in the city, set up for the task of monitoring various aspects of the digital infrastructure. These agencies are Mayors office of TV and Film and the Department of Information Technology (DoIT).

But the best part is the salary which is between $54,000 to $1,25000. Amazing, isn’t it?
